Get to know your horse and let your horse get to know you.  To make a great team, work well together and have a truly enjoyable time with each other you need to get to know each other.

Spend time with your horse other than riding, chores and grooming.  Friendships and relationships are built on quality time.  Hang out in the pasture together.  Walk around the arena and talk.

Cheyenne loves to sit by her horse's stall and read a book out loud to Freckles during feeding time.   I think Freckles actually looks at the pictures.
